Olaf will be discussing the landscape and visual impacts of hydraulic fracturing (“fracking”) and the related challenges for landscape architects. The session will start with an input presentation about hydraulic fracturing and the specific characteristics of such projects based on experiences from the Marcellus Shale in the US and exploratory wells in Lancashire, UK. Afterwards, Olaf will discuss potential implications for landscape architects, particularly in the context of Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA).
